VICE-PRESIDENT
Article 63. There shall be a Vice-President of India.
Election:
Election is held in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote and the voting is by secret ballot.
He is elected by the members of an electoral college consisting of the members of both houses of parliament.
Qualifications:
Should be a citizen of India.
Completed 35 years of age:
Qualified for election as a member of the Rajya Sabha,
Should not hold any office of profit.
Oath or Affirmation:
Oath is administered by the President, or some person appointed in that behalf by him.
Term of Office
At least 14 days advance notice has to be given, before a resolution for his removal is considered.
Can be removed by a resolution of the Rajya Sabha passed by an absolute majority and agreed by the Lok Sabha.
Power and Functions:
Vice President acts as the ex-officio chairman of Rajya Sabha.
Acts as President when a vacancy occurs in the office of the President due to his resignation, removal, death or otherwise.
