Raja Rammohan Roy

I  Raja Rammohan Roy and the Brahmo Samaj

1.He is considered as the first modern man of India.

2.Born in 1772 in the Hooghly district of Bengal, he inculcated a brilliant freedom of thought and rationality.

3.He preached that there is only one God.

4.He studied the Bible as well as Hindu and Muslim religious texts.

5.He had excellent command over many languages including English, Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic, French, Latin, Greek and Hebrew.

6.In 1815, he established the Atmiya Sabha. 

7.The work of the Atmiya Sabha was carried on by Maharishi Debendranath Tagore (father of Rabindranath Tagore), who renamed it as Brahmo Samaj.

8.Debendranath Tagore turned Brahma Samaj in to leading social organisation of India. Later, it was developed into the Brahmo Sabha in August 1828.

9.In 1817, he founded the Hindu College (now Presidency College, Calcutta) along with David Hare, a missionary.

10.Rammohan Roy started the first Bengali weekly Samvad Kaumudi and edited a Persian weekly Mirat-ul-akhbar.

11.Rammohan died in Bristol in England in 1833.

 I. ರಾಜಾರಾಮ ಮೋಹನರಾಯ್

1.ರಾಜಾರಾಮ ಮೋಹನರಾಯ್ 1814 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲ್ಕತ್ತಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಆತ್ಮೀಯ ಸಭಾ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು.

2. 1815 ರಲ್ಲಿ ವೇದಾಂತ ಕಾಲೇಜನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು.

3.1828ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಸಮಾಜ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು.

4.ಈ ಸಮಾಜ ಸತಿಪದ್ಧತಿ, ಜಾತಿಪದ್ದತಿ, ಬಹುಪತ್ನಿತ್ವ, ಬಾಲ್ಯ ವಿವಾಹ ಮುಂತಾದ ಅನಿಷ್ಟ ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳನ್ನು ವಿರೋಧಿಸಿತು.

5.ಇವರ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದ ಫಲವಾಗಿ 1829ರಲ್ಲಿ ಲಾರ್ಡ್ ವಿಲಿಯಂ ಬೆಂಟಿಂಕ್ ಸತಿಸಹಗಮನ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ನಿಷೇಧಿಸಿದನು.

6.1829ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊಗಲ್ ದೊರೆ II ಅಕ್ಟರ್ ಇವರಿಗೆ ರಾಜಾ ಎಂಬ ಬಿರುದನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದನು

7.ಬಂಗಾಳಿ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂವಾದ ಕೌಮುದಿ, ಪರ್ಶಿಯನ್ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೀರತ್‌-ಉಲ್-ಅಕ್ಟರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮನಿಕಲ್ ಎಂಬ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊರಡಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

9.ಇವರನ್ನು ಆಧುನಿಕ ಭಾರತದ ಹರಿಕಾರ, ಭಾರತದ ಪುನರುಜ್ಜಿವನದ ಜನಕ, ಭಾರತದ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯತೆಯ ಪ್ರವಾದಿ ಎಂದು ರವೀಂದ್ರನಾಥ ಟ್ಯಾಗೋರರು ಕೊಂಡಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ

10.ನೇ ಅಕ್ಟರನ ವರ್ಷಾಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಇಂಗ್ಲೆಂಡಿಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗ 1833 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಿಸ್ಟೆಲ್ ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಧನ ಹೊಂದಿದರು.

11.1866 ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ಸಮಾಜ ಒಡೆದು ಎರಡು ಭಾಗವಾಯಿತು.

a) ದೇವೇಂದ್ರನಾಥ ಟ್ಯಾಗೋರರ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಆದಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ಸಮಾಜ.
b) ಕೇಶವಚಂದ್ರ ಸೇನ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ಸಮಾಜ
