 THE MAIN ORGANS PARTICIPATING IN DIGESTION

A. Liver

1.Weight 1.5 -2 kg

2. Largest gland of Human body

3.Amino acid converted in to ammonia by deamination in liver.

4. Amino acid converts into ammonia by deamination in liver.

5. It converts some quantity of protein in to glucose during deficiency of carbohydrate.

6. Production of fibrinogen protein takes places in to glucose during deficiency of carbohydrate.

7. Production of heparin protein.

8. Liver destroys of body is regulated by liver.

9. It plays an important role in invigilating death of a person due to consumption of poison in food.


B. Gallbladders

1. Pear shaped sac. in which bile is stored.

2. pH of bile is 7.7

3. Quantity of water is 85 % while that of bile pigment is 12% 

4.Bile duct connect duodenum and gallbladder.


C. pancreas

1. Second largest gland.

2. Acts simultaneously as endocrine and exocrine type of gland

3. It secretes pancreatic juice.

4. It contains enzymes which can digest all the three of food material (like carbohydrate, fat and protein)


D. Islets of Langerhans

1. Part of pancreas.

2. Langerhans, a Medical scientist discovers it

3. a-cell secrets glucagon.

4. b- cell secrets insulin

5. y-cell secrets somatostatin hormones.


E Insulin

1. Discovered by Banting and best in the year 1921.

2. Excessive secretion of insulin is called Hypoglycemia.

3. Deficiency of insulin causes diabetes.

4. Diabetes is two types diabetes insipidus (excess) and diabetes mellites (deficiency)


F. Glucagon

1. It converts the glycogen in to glucose.

2. Secreted by a -cell of islets of Langerhans.


G. Somatostatin

1. polypeptide hormone secreted by the y- cell islets of Langerhans

2. It increases the duration of assimilation of food
